Definition

The exercise or an instance of physical force, usually effecting or intended to effect injuries or destruction. An unjust, unwarranted, or unlawful display of force.

Legislation

Britain’s legislation includes the crime of violence against the person that may also be Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) or Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
